5. Chocolate Oatmeal Mask
Yum, chocolate and oatmeal–but in this case, you aren’t planning on eating it! Instead, try using cocoa and oatmeal to create a great facial mask that will exfoliate your skin and help fight off potential damage.
The Ingredients:
- 1 1/2 tbsp melted coconut oil
- 1 tbsp cocoa powder
- 1 tbsp honey
- 1/2 tbsp ground oatmeal (grinding oats in a food processor will do; a well-ground texture will create a smoother facial mask, while leaving a grittier texture will offer a deeper exfoliant for your skin.
Mix all of the ingredients together in a small bowl. If you’re having trouble getting everything to mix, heating the honey for a few seconds will help give your facial mask ingredients a smoother texture.
Next, wash and dry your face. Any time you use a facial mask, you want your skin to be fresh and clean before you get started! Once your skin is clean, apply the mask. Allow it to sit for around 15 minutes, or up to 20. Be sure not to let it sit for more than 20 minutes, since that can leave your skin feeling red and sensitive. As with any skincare product, if you start to feel any irritation, wash the mask off immediately. Once your time is up, wash the mask away from your skin. You’ll be left with glowing skin that will help fend off damage, keeping you looking younger, longer.

Apply the resulting paste to your face and wait until it’s completely dry. The drying process usually takes around twenty minutes, so go ahead and pamper yourself while you wait! Tired of feeling down and draggy throughout the day? Using your coffee as a facial mask instead of drinking it might not give you that great energy burst, but it will leave your skin glowing and bright–and that might just be enough to brighten up your mood! Coffee is a great exfoliant, especially combined with coconut oil, as it is in this mask. Not only that, just the smell of coffee is known to make you feel happier and perkier so consider the mood-boosting effect of this mask, too.
The Ingredients:
- 2 tbsp melted coconut oil
- 1 tsp honey
- 3 tbsp coffee grounds (that haven’t been used previously)
Mix all of the ingredients together in a small bowl. This should create a paste that is easy to scoop up in your fingers and apply to your skin. Gently massage the paste into your skin in a circular motion. Massage it into your entire face, carefully scrubbing away dead skin and grit. Then, once you have covered all of your skin, let the mask sit for around fifteen minutes. You can then peel the mask away. Be sure to rinse your face to clean off any remaining remnants of the mask–though there are worse perfumes than coffee to wear all day!
As you’re creating stunning homemade facial masks and experimenting with what works best for your skin and gives you the results you want, keep in mind that most facial masks are meant to be applied only 1-2 times per week, at most. While these masks are a great part of your overall skincare routine, over-application can cause dryness and redness in your skin so make sure you’re planning your routine accordingly. It’s well worth the effort to invest this extra time and energy into your skincare routine.
