When people look at you, your skin is one of the first things they see. They notice your skin’s tone, its clarity, and its natural glow. Are you taking the best possible care of your skin? Make sure you’re implementing these key tips on a daily basis.

1. Remember Your Sunscreen

Use a product with SPF daily to help protect your skin from sun damage and age spots. Even on cloudy days, you still need to protect your face! Make sure to check your products, too: you may need to reapply sunscreen or another product with SPF midway through the day, especially if you’re going to be outside a lot.

2. Moisturize Regularly

Even if your skin seems oily, you still need to use a high-quality moisturizer on a daily basis. Choose one with salicylic acid if you have oily or acne-prone skin.

3. Avoid Excessive Products

You may want to check out all the latest and greatest skincare products all the time, but it may not be the greatest choice for your skin. Too many products can clog your pores and leave your skin feeling heavy or increase breakouts. Instead, make sure your skincare routine includes toner, cleanser, toner, and moisturizer–and not much else.

4. Keep Your Pillowcase Clean

You spend a lot of time with your face pressed up against your pillowcase, which means that many of the oils from your skin are transferred on a regular basis. Get in the habit of washing your pillowcase a minimum of weekly–or keep a couple of sets of extra pillowcases handy so that you can change them easily.

5. Keep Your Hands Off Your Pimples

Popping pimples can lead to scarring and increase healing time before your face goes back to looking like normal. Not only that, as you pop the pimple, you may simply introduce more bacteria to the area. Train yourself to keep your hands off of your pimples and use a spot treatment, instead. Be sure to pick one tailored to your skin type.

6. Use Lip Balm

Just like the rest of your skin, your lips can get burned! Try using a lip balm with SPF to keep your lips smooth and kissable.

7. Skip the Alcohol

Sure, a girls’ night out sounds like a blast, but alcohol dehydrates, which means it can leave your skin looking dull and listless the next day. If you must indulge, make sure you drink at least once glass of water for every alcoholic drink.

8. Get Your Glow the Fake Way

Sure, a sun-kissed glow leaves your skin looking healthy and bright, but if you get it in the sun, it can also cause significant damage to you skin. Instead, opt for a fake tanner. Avoid tanning beds, and make sure you test tanner on an inconspicuous spot to make sure it doesn’t turn you orange!

9. Schedule Exfoliation

Regular exfoliation helps clean out your pores and keep your skin looking fresh. Too-regular exfoliation, however, can leave your skin raw and prone to breakouts. Make sure that you aren’t exfoliating daily–every few days is more than enough.

10. Wipe Down Your Phone

Your phone is covered with bacteria and oil that can clog your pores and lead to acne breakouts. To help take better care of your skin, make sure you wipe down your phone on a regular basis. A simple alcohol wipe can go a long way toward protecting your skin!

11. Wash Your Face at Night

After a great night out or a long day at work, it can be tempting to simply fall into bed with your makeup still on. This, however, can lead to clogged pores and breakouts. Instead, wash your face before you fall into bed.

12. Know Your Skin Type

What type of skin do you have? Everyone’s skin is a little different, and knowing your skin type is an important part of your skincare regime. Make sure you choose products tailored to your needs so that you can increase their effectiveness and make sure they’ll make your face shine, rather than clogging your pores or dulling your glow.

Are you taking the best possible care of your face? With these strategies, you can improve your overall skin care routine and ensure that your skin shines its best.
