10 Alternative Uses For Breastmilk

Breast milk is pretty magical, New Moms are always impressed that their bodies know how to make it and the different changes it goes through depending on their babies needs. It’s really impressive and it turns out, breast milk may have more uses than just food for a baby. Of course, you should check with your doctor if you or your baby are having medical concerns, but here are some homeopathic uses of breast milk that other families have found.

Surprisingly and – at the same time – unsurprisingly, breast milk has so many other uses that we didn’t even think about!

10. Ear drops.

Do you suspect your baby has an ear infection? Start nursing, wait for your milk to let-down, and take aim. So what if you piss off your hungry infant and soak the entire side of their head? Ear pain is a serious problem; your boob juice is the solution.

9. Makeup Remover

Using breast milk as a makeup remover is easy. Just express a bit, and rub it into the skin to help take off tough eye makeup and serve as a pre-cleanser. As it is not at all harsh to your skin as commercial makeup removers are.

8. Soothe Sunburns and other Burns

Aloe vera gel is probably the most popular home remedy for mild sunburns, but other natural skin soothers, such as honey, oatmeal, and milk, might give aloe a run for its money.

7. Treating Blocked Tear Ducts

Does your newborn have weepy, crusty eyes? It’s not uncommon for infants to develop a blockage in their tear ducts. Doctors will typically prescribe an antibiotic ointment or even a minor surgical procedure that involves probing the duct with a thin wire. But lots of moms have found success using a few drops of breast milk to the affected eye. Of course, medical attention should always be sought.

6. Cuts and Scratches

Because it’s sterile and has antiseptic, antibacterial and healing properties, breast milk can be used to disinfect small open wounds – without the sting!

5. Making Lotion

If you have quite a bit of milk available, this is a great option. Make your own breast milk lotion with this recipe:

  • 100ml fresh room temperature breast milk
  • A few drops of vitamin E oil
  • 100ml grapeseed oil
  • 1 tbsp beeswax
  • Add a drop or two of essential oil for scent

Heat the oil and beeswax together in the microwave on low, for about 3 minutes, until the beeswax has just melted. Add the vitamin E oil then pour the breast milk, slowly, into the wax while whisking rapidly. The mixture should emulsify and thicken. Pour into small jars and leave to cool before using. The lotion will thicken as it cools.

4. Yeast infections

Breast milk kills unhealthy bacteria that create diaper yeast infections. Treat your baby’s bottom with breast milk to help prevent and treat diaper yeast infections.

3. Milk Substitute

For children who are sensitive to cow’s milk, moms can substitute breast milk in baking and cooking.

2. Underarm Odor

You might not believe it but one of the many uses of breast milk is to combat underarm odor!

Rubbing breast milk on the underarms every day can keep the bad smell away.

Just rub it on to clean, dry skin and let it dry!

1. Milk As A Cooking Ingredient

Breast milk has been used as a substitute for cow’s milk in coffee and cereal. The nutrients found in human breast milk are not found in regular milk. The human milk’s human alpha-lactalbumin made lethal to tumor cells, One writer and breastfeeding mama even went so far as to try many different meals with her own breast milk, from smoothies to casseroles to classic Mac-and-Cheese with a twist.

Please note that a lot of these methods have not been scientifically studied or proven so there is really no medical evidence for a lot of these methods, but many mommies swear by them. Hey, they’re worth giving them a try!
