This is suppose to be the original recipe for coleslaw that Colonel Harlan Sanders made when he was traveling around the country getting his Kentucky Fried Chicken company started. This would be old-school K.F.C. coleslaw. Gloria Pitzer knew Colonel Sanders and gave his coleslaw recipe which she got from Sue Smith.
- 1 head (about 2 lb.) cabbage, chopped fine (about 8 c.)
- 1/4 c. finely shredded carrot
- 1/4 c. sugar
- 1/4 c. milk
- 1/4 c. buttermilk
- 1/2 c. real mayonnaise
- 1 1/2 T. vinegar
- 2 1/2 T. lemon juice
- salt and pepper to taste
Mix cabbage and carrot together in large bowl; set aside.
Mix remaining ingredients well and add to cabbage/carrot mixture.
Refrigerate 1 hour before serving.
